Supervision Experience

 

Ball State University Counseling Practicum Clinic -- Clinical Supervisor

        Duration:  January to May 2003; May to July 2005

        Type of Experience:  Providing weekly supervision to Masters-level counselors-in-training of their work with clients

        Clinical Supervisor:  Dr. Sharon Bowman, Ph.D.; Dr. Don Nicholas, Ph.D.

        Description:  The Ball State University Counseling Practicum Clinic provides low-cost individual and family counseling to people in the Delaware County area.  Housed in the Ball State University Teacher's College, the BSU Counseling Clinic is staffed by Masters- and doctoral-level counseling students at Ball State, who provide services from a variety of empirically-validated, process-oriented theoretical orientations.  My duties as a Counselor Supervisor were to meet weekly with and provide supervision to Masters-level counselors who had just begun their first clinical experience counseling clients.

 

Ball State University Wilson Middle School Practicum -- Clinical Supervisor

        Duration:  August to December 2003

        Type of Experience:  Providing weekly supervision to Masters-level counselors-in-training of their counseling work with middle school students

        Clinical Supervisor:  Dr. Charlene Alexander, Ph.D.

        Description:  The Ball State University Wilson Middle School Practicum provides free after-school counseling for middle school students enrolled at Wilson Middle School, and for their families.  Affiliated with the Ball State Counseling Practicum Clinic, the Wilson Practicum is staffed by Masters-level counseling students at Ball State, who provide services to Wilson's students at school after school hours.  These counselors were supervised by two doctoral student counselors and a counseling psychology faculty member.  My duties as a Counselor Supervisor were to meet weekly with and provide supervision for five Masters-level counselors who were in their first or second clinical experience counseling clients.

 

Ball State University Garfield Elementary School Practicum -- Clinical Supervisor

        Duration:  May to July 2004

        Type of Experience:  Providing weekly supervision to Masters-level counselors-in-training of their counseling work with elementary school students

        Clinical Supervisor:  Julie Maugherman, MS

        Description:  The Ball State University Garfield Elementary School Practicum provides free counseling during the school day for elementary school students enrolled at Garfield Elementary School, and for their families.  Affiliated with the Ball State Counseling Practicum Clinic, the Garfield Practicum is staffed by Masters-level counseling students at Ball State, who provide services to Garfield's students at school during school hours.  These counselors were supervised by two doctoral student counselors and a Masters-level instructor who is also a school counselor.  My duties as a Clinical Supervisor were to meet weekly with and provide supervision for Masters-level counselors who were in their second clinical experience counseling clients.

 

Ball State University School Counseling Pre-Practicum -- Assistant Instructor

        Duration:  August to December 2004

        Type of Experience:  Providing weekly supervision to Masters-level counselors-in-training of their counseling work with elementary, middle, and junior high school students

        Clinical Supervisor:  Jennifer Conti, MS

        Description:  The Ball State University School Counseling Pre-Practicum class is the first training experience that Masters students receive in which they have contact with real clients.  As a part of their training, these Masters students interview elementary, middle, or junior-high school students as they learn how to do counseling.  These students were supervised by a doctoral student counselor and a Masters-level instructor who is also a school counselor.  My duties as an Assistant Instructor were to meet weekly with the class and help the instructor teach, as well as watching and grading tapes of the students doing their interviews.
