Degree: High School Academic Honors Diploma
GPA: 4.0 (12.011 on a 12.000 scale)
From 1992 to 1996, I attended Kokomo High School (KHS) in Kokomo, Indiana. From 1992 to 1993, I attended the KHS - Downtown Campus, and for the remainder of that time, I attended the KHS - South Campus. KHS was an excellent public school. It offered a variety of opportunities, both in terms of academics and extracurricular activities. Moreso than any other school in the area, KHS offered many different Advanced Placement (AP) courses -- college-level courses culminating in AP Exams, which qualified those who passed to receive college credit. I took several AP courses, and as a result of these was able to enter college with 24 credit hours already completed.
I also took part in a great number of extracurricular activities. For three years, I was on various KHS Academic Super Bowl teams, twice qualifying for and once winning the State Academic Super Bowl competition. For two years, I was on the KHS Forensics team, which engaged in competitive public speaking and debate, and I won a number of awards -- including becoming the Sectional and Regional Co-champion of Original Oratory for a speech I wrote entitled "The Nature of Humanity." I was also in Latin Club, the National Honors Society, Spell Bowl, and on the editorial board of Phantasm, our school's annual creative literary publication.
By working hard and availing myself of these many opportunities, I earned several honors, such as Honor cords, the Academic Honors diploma, National Merit Scholars "Commended Scholar" status, and three Presidential Academic Fitness awards. I was also Salutatorian of my graduating class of 1996, graduating second out of more than 400 classmates. For this, I got to speak at commencement, delivering a speech entitled "Carpe Diem, Class of 1996." It was a great time.
